MASTER THESIS :
Each graduate student is required to write a Master’s Thesis (MT) during the third semester of their studies on a topic related to the subject of the MSc program and preferably aligned with their chosen specialization. A list of relevant topics is compiled for this purpose. Specifically, the General Assembly of Special Composition (GASC), based on proposals from faculty members collaborating with the MSc program or other department members, prepares a list of thesis topics by May at the latest, which is then communicated to the students. Once this list is finalized, no new topics are added for the current academic year. Each student consults with the faculty members who proposed the topics, and after mutual agreement, approval is sought from the GASC for the selected topic, the supervising professor, and the three-member examination committee (TEC) following the applicable regulations. Students must submit their thesis topic request to the MSc Secretariat by July at the latest. The GASC may decide that the thesis can be written in a language other than Greek.
The thesis is evaluated by the TEC, which consists of the supervisor and two (2) other faculty members or researchers of rank A, B, or C, all holding a PhD. The committee members must have the same or a related scientific specialization as the MSc program’s field.
The student develops the thesis and presents it in an open seminar before the TEC. The committee grades the thesis on a scale from 0 to 10 (with a minimum passing grade of 5) and signs a written certification confirming the student has fulfilled the thesis requirement. A further requirement for awarding the MSc degree is the proper formatting of the thesis according to general guidelines approved by the GASC. The supervisor is responsible for procedural matters related to the TEC meeting and the thesis presentation. The student must submit the thesis in electronic format to the MSc Secretariat, as well as to the central library of the University of Piraeus, where it will be uploaded to the university’s thesis repository.
